Students who follow the guidelines below

will increase their chances of successfully completing this course!

  1. As soon as possible, purchase the textbook: Introductory Algebra, 10th edition, by Bittinger and Keedy.                                                        The required Student Resource Guides booklet comes packaged with the textbook.
  2. Always bring your textbook and Student Resource Guides booklet with you to class.
  3. When you arrive for class, write your name, the time you arrive, and the chapter
you are working in on the clipboard sheet marked: "Yeager – Mat. 060-17."
At the end of class, write the time you leave class on the clipboard.
  4. It is important that you attend almost every class. Students who are absent from
4 or more classes can be withdrawn from the class.
  5. When you begin each chapter, ask your instructor for a test slip to take
Chapter Pretest in the testing area of the learning center.
( You may take the Chapter 1 Pretest during the 1st week of class without
     a permission slip.)
  6. ALWAYS show your work, and hand in your work, when you take a test
in the learning center. Also, show your work when you do math problems
    in your notebook and textbook.
  7. If your score on a Chapter Pretest is 70% or above, you may go to the next Chapter.
If your score is below 70%, you will receive a list of objectives that you need to complete
for that chapter. You should then follow the directions in the Student Resource
Guide (S.R.G.), and complete the required objectives, as specified.
  8. Your S.R.G. for each Chapter will indicate which textbookpages, examples, and
exercises you need to work on before you take a Chapter Posttest. In addition,
you may use a computer or watch video clips as indicated in the S.R.G.
  9. When you are fully prepared to take a Chapter Posttest in the testing area,
ask your instructor for a test slip. If your Chapter Posttest A score is 70%
or above, you can go on to the next Chapter. If your score is below 70%,
then after further review and practice, ask your instructor for a test slip
to take the Chapter Posttest B and/or Chapter Posttest C.
  10.  When you need assistance, see your instructor. Don’t wait until it’s too late!
If you see your instructor frequently for short periods of time, you will increase
your chances of successfully completing this course!

  11. For extensive assistance, sign up for tutoring in the Act 101 Tutoring Center or the Math Learning Center.
  12. To be "eligible" to take the FINAL EXAM, you must first pass one test in each
chapter (i.e. Chapters 1,2,3,4,5,6,8,9, and 10) on or before Tuesday, Dec. 9th.
The Final Exam must be taken before or during final exam week.
  13. Your grade for this course will be determined as follows:                                                                                                                                                                                                                     85-100% on Final Exam  =   HP (High Pass)
                 70-84% on Final Exam    =   P (Pass)
                 0-69% on Final Exam      =   NP (Non-Pass)
